Dr Goldman sits down with Dr Maroon, vice chairman of the neurosurgery department of Pittsburgh University and team physician to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dr Maroon’s research into concussions and the guidelines relating to sports has led him to the development of the ‘Impact’ system, which is a neuro cognitive computer based test that has become the standard of care for many sports bodies including the NHL and NFL. Dr Maroon discusses research into nerve growth and stem cells and their relevance to spinal injuries in the field of sports. He also discusses his journey into regenerative medicine and nutrition as well as his eureka moment when it became obvious that prevention, rather than treatment, was the future.
