SAN FRANCISCO -- A coalition of wealthy patient advocates, eminent scientists and Hollywood executives has launched a well-funded campaign to make California a hub for human embryonic stem cell research even as tepid federal support slows such efforts elsewhere. The group is trying to get a $3 billion bond proposition on the November ballot that would make California the first state -- and the largest U.
