Listening to music while under anesthesia may help to speed a patient’s recovery from surgery, according to results of a recent study. Researchers from a hospital in Sweden found that women who were exposed to soothing music during a hysterectomy experienced less pain, were less tired, and were able to sit up sooner after the procedure. Furthermore, women who listened to music and encouraging words needed fewer pain-relieving drugs and were less likely to feel fatigued when they were discharged from hospital.
