A massage therapist will rotate through the treatment rooms for two hours offering to massage hands, feet and heads.
Oncologist Dr. Steven Liu requested the massage service as part of an overall effort to improve the quality of life for his cancer patients. He said massages can relieve muscular tension, decrease pain and reduce the nausea that many patients anticipate when faced with a chemotherapy treatment.
Other Norton Healthcare facilities have been offering massage therapy for cancer patients who are out of the hospital and come to outpatient facilities for the therapy.
