The popular mind-body practice may produce beneficial changes in cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome risk factors.

Consistently ranking as leading public health concerns, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome are rampant in the US and developed nations around the world.  MG Myriam Hunink, from Erasmus Medical Center (The Netherlands), and colleagues completed systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving asana-based yoga in adults.  Data analysis revealed that yoga significantly improved body mass index, blood pressure, LDL and HDL cholesterols, triglycerides, and heart rate.  The study authors submit that: “There is promising evidence of yoga on improving cardio-metabolic health.”
