Worlds Oldest Man Dies Aged 114

Yukichi Chuganji, the world

Yukichi Chuganji, the world’s oldest man, has died of natural causes aged 114. Mr Chuganji, a former silkworm breeder, was born in a farming village on the Japanese island of Kyushu on March 23 1889. Over the last few years Mr Chuganji, a tetotallaler who drank a glass of milk each day, rarely ventured from his bed, mainly because of deteriorating eyesight. Mr Chuganji’s predecessor as the world’s oldest man was Antonio Todde, an Italian who swore that the secret of his longevity was a daily glass of red wine. Mr Todde died aged 112 in January 2002. While Chuganji and Todde’s drinking habits were very different, the men’s families say that they had one thing in common: both men led a very stress-free life.
