Minneapolis St Paul has been rated the Most Heart Friendly City for Women in the US, with the lowest cardiac mortality and hypertension rates among females, a new study has revealed.

Recent research from the American Heart Association found that based on the heart-friendly benefits of American cities and the lifestyles of their residents, Minneapolis St Paul offers the best environmental factors for a healthy heart.

At the other end of the scale, Nashville ranked bottom with high obesity and smoking rates. Boston and Phoenix also reported the lowest female cardiac mortality rates in the country, while Detroit and St Louis joined Nashville in recording the highest.

Dr Mary Ann Bauman, national spokesperson for the American Heart Association, said: "Our goal is that individual residents, communities at large and government officials can use this information to help create socio-political change at the grassroots level as well as educate women on their personal risk for heart disease."

Statistics show that, at present, heart disease is the number one cause of death in women.ADNFCR-1506-ID-18599923-ADNFCR
