Legislative enactment of a ban on therapeutic cloning research would lead to “an emigration (of) the best and brightest” medical researchers from Nebraska, a noted Stanford University researcher predicted Thursday. The process of somatic cell nuclear transfer, in which researchers clone embryos and use stem cell lines for research, represents “the next big opening” in combating genetically determined disease, Dr. Irving Weissman told a Lincoln news conference.
