British and German men are to be the first to get their hands on a new drug, which according to its makers Eli Lilly & Co and U.S. biotechnology company Icos Corp, acts faster and lasts longer than Viagra. Cialis is active for 24-hours, in comparison to Viagra's 3-4, thus meaning that men can be a little bit more spontaneous with their love-making.

Research has shown that it works in 80% of men with erectile dysfunction. Hot on the heels on Cialis is Levitra, GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Bayer AG's new impotence drug, which is expected to be launched later this year. All three drugs work by blocking an enzyme known as PDE-5, which affects blood flow to the penis. Viagra has been a huge success for Pfizer Inc, since its launch in 1998, with global sales hitting $1.74-billion last year.
