Does mass vaccination produce a better long-term result than allowing one's own immune system to activate an adaptive response? Mike Adams of Natural News asks important questions about the merits of vaccination programs for non-fatal diseases.

According to a column in Natural News written by Editor Mike Adams, new research has shown that the health of humans actually improves when we are exposed to infections that trigger the body to "activate an adaptive response." Adams points to a pioneering study being conducted in Argentina showing that hookworm infections invoke a "healthy adaptive response in the body that tends to tame asthma."

In his column, he also discusses the "hygiene hypothesis," which suggests that one key reason so many people in developed nations contract degenerative diseases is that they are not exposed to enough infection in their lifetime. As he writes, "It is the odd belief of vaccine promoters that the human body is inherently incapable of dealing with infections and must be protected through chemical intervention. This deeply rooted lack of faith in the technology of the human body is a bedrock belief of western medicine, which prefers intervention to self care (and external solutions instead of internal ones). By sheer coincidence, this core belief also happens to maximize the profits of the drug companies and conventional medical practitioners who thrive on the revenues created through medical intervention."

Just like the body needs exercise to stay strong, Adams argues that the immune system can become weak and lazy, thus "depriving the person of the immune system experience needed to mature and adapt." He suggests that when a child is vaccinated against chicken pox, he or she is far more likely to be open to other more serious infectious diseases. He stresses that his argument is for non-fatal infections only, although he notes that deadly strains of pathogens pose little risk to the public because they kill their victims too quickly to become widespread problems. He says that according to the Centers for Disease Control, "widespread strains of infectious diseases are the weakest strains because they can live in hosts and incubate for long enough to be transmitted to others." He strongly cautions that children should not be vaccinated against non-fatal pathogens as they serve a role in helping the child's immune system mature.

Adams' column makes some additional compelling points about the short-sighted perspective that characterizes modern medicine, the fact that many doctors and health authorities believe vaccine theory is beyond questioning and that most doctors believe that chemicals are superior to the body's own immune system. In conclusion he writes, "Mother Nature produces amazing technology, and the human immune system is one of the most advanced biological supercomputers that has ever existed on our planet. That immune system, when properly supported, can easily overcome common infections. Vaccines are not merely unnecessary; they are a chemical assault that damages the immune system and interferes with the immune technology that should be embraced, not hijacked."
