New research has found that the risk of developing cataracts could be cut dramatically by supplementing the diet with a daily dose of multivitamins. Analysis of data from more than 3,000 people aged between 43 and 86, found that the incidence of cataracts was 60% lower in those who had taken a supplement containing vitamin-C or E on a daily basis for 10-years or longer. No protective was seen in those who had taken the supplement for less than 10-years. The study authors believe that dietary components involved in protection against oxidative stress, may have a role in slowing cataract development.
