WASHINGTON - South Korean scientists say their new research is "very important to medicine," but it is sure to stir some controversy. Researchers in South Korea say they have become the first to successfully clone a human embryo and then take master stem cells from it. They say their purpose is not to clone humans, but to use the stem cells to treat diseases.

Researchers in South Korea say they have become the first to successfully clone a human embryo and then take master stem cells from it. They say their purpose is not to clone humans, but to use the stem cells to treat diseases. They are hoping that such "therapeutic cloning" could eventually allow patients to grow their own replacement tissue.
