The majority of the houses of today are constructed to reduce energy use for heating and cooling. As such, proper ventilation becomes a concern. Assessing data collected on residents of 700 properties in Cornwall, Richard A. Sharpe, from the University of Exeter Medical School (United Kingdom), and colleagues warn that the occupants of energy-efficient homes may be at increased risk of asthma. Further, the failure by residents to heat and ventilate retrofitted properties could lead to more people developing the respiratory condition.
