Don't forget about beverages
(HealthDay News) — If you have food allergies and plan to eat out, it’s important to remember that the beverages you drink may also be a source of the sniffles or more serious reactions.
The American Academy of Food Allergy Asthma & Immunology offers these suggestions:
- Do not share beverages with others, since they may have eaten a food to which you’re allergic.
- Make sure the bar uses clean utensils and appliances to prepare your drink.
- Ask about all ingredients that are added to your drink.
- Be conscious of sulfides that may be included in your drink. These preservatives can trigger allergic and asthmatic reactions. Sulfides may be found in beer, wine, ciders and mixed drinks.
