The drug 5-Loxin has been proven to reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis - or degenerative arthritis - following the results of a human study, it has been asserted.

PL Thomas, in alliance with Laila Nutraceuticals India, announced the results, which are published in Arthritis Research and Therapy, Medical News Today reports.

The study was conducted using the dietary supplement ingredient which was found to reduce the pain associated with the condition while improving functionality at doses of 100mg and 250mg daily.

A significant improvement in both areas was recorded during the research as early as seven days after beginning to take 5-Loxin and the 75 patients demonstrated no safety concerns.

Siba Raychaudhuri, a faculty member of the University of California and leader of the study, told the journal: "The high incidence of adverse affects associated with currently available medications has created great interest in the search for an effective and safe alternative treatment."
