Intervention lifestyle platforms are going digital. Liva Healthcare digital lifestyle intervention platform designed to tackle chronic diseases has shown promise to reduce rates of Type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Results have been released demonstrating effectiveness of the intervention’s ability. 136 patients were monitored using its digital healthcare app over a 9 month time frame in which 82% of the patients lost weight with an average of 6.3 kg. According to the release patients seemed to be losing weight more rapidly than previous studies conducted with use of digital health interventions have shown. If patients using this platform continue on the current trajectory results will be evidence of the effectiveness of the digital intervention.

Through a desktop and app platform this intervention provides a digital health coach program for those with and at risk of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. It provides one to one goal setting and coaching, self monitoring health tools, and online peer to peer support groups to assist patients with adopting as well as maintain healthy lifestyle behaviours.

Weight loss achieved is promising for tracking obesity and prevention of diabetes. Weight loss has been shown to have strong associations with diabetes remission. In a 12 month study 45% of weight loss patients achieved remission to nondiabetic states, suggesting that weight management schemes can achieve drug free remission of Type 2 diabetes. Research has shown that 65-80% of diabetes cases can be attributed to obesity. Finding interventions to help tackle the obesity epidemic is important with and estimated 4.5 million people affected by diabetes.

Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, which is a pilot scheme providing digital intervention to over 5000 patients who are at risk of Type 2 diabetes is going to be using Liva Healthcare as the provider for its digital stream.
