America Is Becoming Stressed To The Max

Most Americans are becoming stressed to the max, and most say that they are close to their breaking point

Most Americans are becoming stressed to the max, and most say that they are close to their breaking point, with 41% reporting that they are currently at their peak levels, according to a recent study conducted by Talker Research (formerly OnePoll U.S.) on behalf of Traditional Medicinals polling 2,000 general population Americans with a random double opt-in survey.

This study revealed some alarming statistics that may be driven by a year of continued financial worries, political tension, and wokeness reaching new levels of confusion and contradiction. Findings from this research show that the average American feels like their head is “spinning” 156 times a year, which works out to be around 3 times a week.

Along with headaches, the respondents also report experiencing brain fog at least three times a week, and over half believe that stress is often what causes them to get sick. However, even with their high stress levels 45% of the respondents said that they have never taken a day off from work solely due to stress. 30% of the respondents remain hopeful that their levels will go down by the end of the year, but 26% feel that their levels might increase.

What is stressing people out?

When asked to think back on the previous year, 38% of the respondents felt that 2024 has been more worrisome, but said that it is far less taxing than 2022 and previous years. 35% report that finances are their primary source of anxiety and stress, 28% are concerned about the economy, 25% are worried about their physical health, 20% are freaking out about the presidential election, 19% are anxious about other World issues, 16% fret about work, 15% worry about an unexpected life event, and 15% have trepidations about romantic relationships.

“With cold and flu season approaching, self-care and stress management are more important than ever. Half of those surveyed believe that stress is often the main cause of them getting sick, and when asked what season is most stressful, the highest percentage of respondents (26%) said winter given seasonal changes and the holidays,” says Kristel Corson, chief marketing officer at Traditional Medicinals, in a statement.

Recognizing and dealing with stress

Most of the respondents reported that they are learning signs of when they are stressed with 42% saying that they have trouble sleeping, 37% become irritable, 34% struggle with fatigue, 33% experience headaches, 31% start to feel worried or paranoid, 30% have trouble with their focus, 29% get restless, 23% experience brain fog, and 23% have panic attacks. However, they have found ways to combat this, 47% turn to their favorite music, 39% watch their must-see movies and television programs, 17% indulge in comfort food, and 14% unwind with a nice cuppa tea.

The majority of people know that stress affects their mental health, with 71% agreeing that their overall mental health would improve if they could reduce their levels. 47% want to find simple solutions for reducing their levels, but due to their busy schedules finding ways to incorporate these reducing strategies into their lives is a struggle for 1 in 7 of the respondents.

“We believe in integrating ancient herbal wisdom with modern scientific advancements for a holistic approach to wellness,” Corson says. “Just 37 percent of survey respondents think that trendy stress relief options are successful, while nearly half felt confident in more traditional methods like yoga, meditation, or a calming tea.”
