Pomegranate nutrients have been shown to lower heart disease markers such as homocysteine, Hs-CRP, and OX-LDL. It also balances A1C blood levels, boosts nitric-oxide levels for better blood flow, improves digestion, and reports to enhance skin texture.

Every day it seems someone is claiming a “new” substance that claims it’s “Anti-Aging”. It’s generally accepted that anything that reduces oxidation (“anti-oxidant”) is also anti-aging. One of the primary long-term consequences of metabolic oxidation, is aging. Therefore, nearly every vitamin, mineral, herb, botanical, or plant are good for you especially if they are anti-oxidant. Granted there are many plants that can hurt you or make you sick, but the basics that are tried and true, the ones our grandparents and great grandparents ate are basically good for you. Coffee, and tea are anti-oxidants, beer and wine have beneficial components, and so on.

A new study supporting pomegranates as anti-aging is a welcome addition to the list! Not only is it one of the more attractive fruits, but it’s delicious in everything. Most of us have seen pomegranate drinks in the health food aisles and found them to be delicious, it just makes sense they’re good for us.

Pomegranate nutrients have been shown to lower heart disease markers such as homocysteine, Hs-CRP, and OX-LDL. It also balances A1C blood levels, boosts nitric-oxide levels for better blood flow, improves digestion, and reports to enhance skin texture.

The new studies prove that it increases our energy, memory, and strength, as well as possibly extending both quality of life and longevity. This then indicates more stamina, more mobility, and less frailty as we age. Hopefully this also indicates that some of the more than 300,000 hospitalizations from broken hips from falling can be reduced. Falls are usually due to weaken muscles and disequilibrium, and are commonly followed by months of physical therapy and a substantial reduction of mobility.

Punicalagin and ellagitannins are two powerful anti-oxidant flavonoids found in pomegranates that become Urolithin-A when digested. Urolithin-A can only be produced through digestion, it does not occur naturally. One of most powerful and unique properties of Urolithin-A is the improvement of mitochondrial health and reproduction within each cell. Mitochondria are the power source (like a battery) of each cell. It also can help overall cellular rejuvenation.  More mitochondrial power means more body power overall. On their own, punicalagin and ellagitannins are quickly metabolized by the human body. However, supporting nutrients in pomegranate, preserve these two flavonoids during digestion, making them available for conversion. All of the above factors play into the whole-body concept of endurance, improved immune response and therefore longevity.

Environmental toxins and stress play a major role in in cellular degradation and energy consumption. This increases mitochondrial stress and degradation, which effects the overall body energy availability, and a general weakening of all tissues, especially muscles and organs. As muscles weaken the entire body weakens, has less stamina and energy. As organ weaken they produce fewer hormones which is a key factor in the aging process.
